Code-compliant pool fence installation in Gilroy, California

Why Pool Fencing Matters

California law requires pool fencing to prevent accidental drownings, especially among young children. It's not just about meeting code requirements. It's about protecting your family, your neighbors' kids, and any visitors to your property. A proper pool fence creates a secure barrier that gives you peace of mind every time your kids are playing in the backyard.

We've been installing code-compliant pool fencing in Gilroy since 2024. We know California's pool barrier requirements inside and out. Your fence must be at least 5 feet tall with gaps no wider than 4 inches. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches at least 54 inches above ground. We make sure every detail meets or exceeds code so your fence passes inspection the first time.

Beyond safety, your pool fence should look great too. Your pool is a major feature of your backyard, and the fence around it should enhance the space, not detract from it. We help you choose materials and styles that complement your pool design while providing the security you need. The result is a backyard you'll love spending time in, knowing your family is safe.

Pool Fence Material Options

We install pool fencing in several materials, each with its own benefits. Here's what works best for pools in Gilroy:

  • Aluminum fencing: The most popular choice. Elegant appearance, won't rust, requires zero maintenance. Perfect for pools because it resists corrosion from chemicals and moisture. Available in many styles and colors.
  • Vinyl fencing: Another low-maintenance option. Won't rot or corrode. Privacy styles completely block the view of the pool, which some homeowners prefer. Available in solid panels or picket styles.
  • Glass pool fencing: Frameless tempered glass panels provide an unobstructed view of your pool. Modern and luxurious, but requires regular cleaning to look its best. Most expensive option.
  • Mesh pool fencing: Temporary or semi-permanent option made from durable mesh fabric. Completely removable when not needed. Good for families with young children who want flexibility.

Most of our customers choose aluminum pool fencing because it strikes the perfect balance between looks, durability, and cost. It meets all safety codes, looks elegant, and will last 30+ years without any maintenance beyond an occasional rinse with the hose.

California Pool Fence Code Requirements

Here's what you need to know about California's pool barrier laws. Your fence must completely surround the pool with no gaps that allow access without going through a gate. The fence must be at least 5 feet tall measured from the ground on the side away from the pool. If there's a deck or patio, measurements can get more complex, which is where our expertise comes in handy.

Vertical pickets or slats can't have gaps wider than 4 inches. This prevents children from squeezing through. Chain-link mesh must be no larger than 1.75 inches. If you have horizontal rails, they must be spaced so they can't be used as a ladder for climbing over the fence.

Gates are the most critical part. They must be self-closing from any position and self-latching. The latch must be at least 54 inches above ground or on the pool side of the gate where kids can't reach it. We install commercial-grade gate hardware that's tested and approved for pool safety. Many homeowners also add vinyl privacy fencing around the entire pool area for complete seclusion.
